Adapting a campaign to another country: AI regionalization

Regionalizing a campaign means adapting it to another country without losing the idea: the voice, the accent, the references and sometimes the scenes change, and what makes the brand recognizable stays. With AI video production, many of those adaptations can be done without a new shoot in each market and with the team working remotely.

What regionalizing a campaign means

Translating is changing the words. Regionalizing is changing what is needed for the campaign to be understood and to feel local in another country: the variant of the language, the idioms, the humor, the cultural references and, sometimes, the casting and the settings.

What does not change is the idea or the brand's code. If in one country the campaign works because of a tension or a gesture, it has to be there in the other one too, even if it is told with other words. An adaptation that only translates usually sounds imported.

It is different work from adapting a piece to several formats. There the screen changes; here the audience changes. Adapting to formats is covered in adapting a campaign to many screens.

What changes in the voice, the accent and the references

The voice is the first thing that gives away a poor adaptation. A voice-over artist with the wrong accent or an idiom from another country breaks the piece in seconds, even if the image is flawless.

Today you can work with local voice-over artists or with generated voices, and each path has limits. With generated voices, a specific regional accent does not always come out natural, and it is not wise to promise it without testing it. When the accent is part of the message, it is worth validating it with someone from the country or recording with a local voice.

References weigh as much as the voice: the weather, the architecture, the gestures, the food, football. Producing with AI makes it possible to change settings and visual details without shooting again, as long as the art direction makes sure each change is consistent with the rest of the piece.

Producing for Colombia without traveling: the MARCCA 2026 invitation

The invitation to MARCCA 2026, Acecolombia's annual conference in Barranquilla, was made for an audience of marketing managers and directors of Colombian shopping centers.

From the regionalization point of view, what is interesting is what did not need adapting: the edition's concept, magic, came from the conference itself, and the piece took it as it was. The work was in telling it for that audience, with the conference's identity inside the images.

Everything was done remotely and without a crew in Colombia: concept, art direction, AI video production, motion graphics, editing and sound. For a piece meant for another country, that requires understanding the target audience from the brief. How to invite people to an industry event is covered in video for conferences.

How an international brand's code is used in a local market

The reverse case is a global brand arriving in a country. When Mango returned to Argentina, Alto Palermo told that arrival starting from a device the brand had already used in other markets, such as Uruguay: something that lands and announces it has arrived.

In Mango arrives at Alto Palermo the device stayed and the place changed: the landing is on the shopping center's real facade, composited onto its architecture.

Working on a code the brand already uses requires precision: the piece had to be recognizable as Mango and, at the same time, belong to Alto Palermo and fit with the rest of its content. There, regionalization means knowing which part of the code is not touched.

For agencies that handle regional accounts, this work is usually done with a production company that works for the agency. It is explained in production for agencies and in how the creative agency and the production company work together.

Frequently asked questions

What is regionalizing a campaign?

It is adapting a campaign to another country or region while keeping the idea and the brand's code. The variant of the language, the voice, the accent, the cultural references and sometimes the scenes or the casting change. The goal is for the campaign to feel local in each market and not sound like an imported translation.

Can the accent of a generated voice be adapted?

In some cases yes, but it is not wise to take it for granted. Generated voices make it possible to work with different variants of Spanish, although a specific regional accent does not always come out natural. Before committing to a generated voice, it is worth testing it and validating it with someone from the country. When the accent is part of the message, a recorded local voice is usually the safer option.

Is it necessary to produce in the target country?

Not always. With AI video production, a good part of the adaptation can be done remotely. The MARCCA 2026 invitation for Acecolombia was produced entirely without a crew in Colombia. What is necessary is understanding the target audience: its references, its way of speaking and what it expects from the brand.

What stays the same between countries?

The central idea, the tone and the brand's visual code: what makes it recognizable in any market. Mango, for example, announces its arrivals with the device of something that lands, and at Alto Palermo that same code was adapted to the shopping center. The local layer is added on top of that base.

What taking a campaign to another market involves is in the adaptations and regionalization service.
